Synopsis​

The Advanced Diploma in Interior Design course is an incremental six (6) months course that extends from the Diploma course. It focuses on commercial interior design, challenging participants and instilling them with strong design solving and leadership skills.

The course reaches beyond the design knowledge covered in the previous semesters and introduces new subjects such as:

  • Environmental design and its influence on sustainable commercial interior design
  • Professional Design Practices on how to manage and work with a group of professionals that are commonly engaged for large scale commercial projects

Upon meeting all the requirements, participants will achieve an Advanced Diploma in Interior Design qualification.

​Aim of the Course

This course will enable participants to acquire a well-rounded knowledge appropriate for professional practice in the design industry, as well as the leadership skills to lead a team of designers.

Participants will be equipped with a range of practical skills that will enable them to interact effectively with all levels of professionals in the field of interior design, such as communicating with clients and contractors, to managing and overseeing a commercial project involving various professional stakeholders.

​Learning objectives

The learning objectives for the Advanced Diploma in Interior Design course are:

  1. Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in a design company setting
  2. Gaining a sound understanding of building regulations, specifications and construction techniques; and staying abreast of changes in these regulations
  3. Identifying, appreciating, and practicing the co-related design principles of form and space, colour and light, as well as materials and finishes, in projects of any complexity
  4. Practicing strong design problem-solving skills
  5. Practicing as a well-rounded designer with knowledge and integration of fundamentals in environmental design into interior design strategies and building technologies
  6. Applying a comprehensive range of essential professional design practices for handling projects from conception through to completion

(being an incremental period that extends the 6 months of Diploma in Interior Design to a total of 24 months)

Assessment and Examination

At the start of each semester, students will receive the project brief and the submission checklist. The student will be assessed based on their participation, assignments, learning journal and coursework.

Students must document their design processes in their student learning journal and research diary to supplement their learning alongside the weekly lessons.

Pre-requisites

  • Diploma in Interior Design

Minimum Academic Requirements

  • 3 GCE ‘O’ Level credit with a Pass in English, OR
  • 4 GCE ‘N’ Level credit with a Pass in English, OR
  • ITE/Higher NITEC Certificate Holders minimum 2.5GPA

​Language Proficiency Requirement :​

  • GCE ‘O’ Level – C6 in English language, or equivalent OR
  • GCE ‘N’ Level – C5 in English language, or equivalent OR
  • Minimum IELTS (Academic) overall band 5; with no individual band – below 6.0 OR
  • TOEFL (Paper-based) 500
    (Test results achieved within the year preceding application)
  • International Student – Completed Senior High School or equivalent

* Those who do not meet the minimum entry requirements will be required to sit for an entrance test.

Tuition Fee

The total tuition fee covers lectures, tutorials, workshops and main assessments such as assignments and projects (where applicable), programme materials in digital format, qualification (if earned) and transcript.

Application Fee

The one-time application fee applies to all new applicants.

IWC Fee

The Industry Wide Coverage (IWC) fee is an insurance scheme to protect course fees that students have paid if the Private Education Institution (PEI) is unable to continue operations.

Course Material Fee

The course material fees include stationery and study materials required for the programme.

Software Fee

The software fees include student licences for AutoCAD and SketchUp.
